Anne Rice was born and raised in New Orleans, a storied city that later served as the backdrop for many of her novels, which included the Vampire Chronicles, Ramses the Damned, and Mayfair Witches series. Her first novel, Interview with the Vampire (1976), unfolded onscreen in 1994 with director Neil Jordan and actors Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, and Antonio Banderas. The author of more than 40 books, Rice was a beloved literary world figure with a rabidly devoted following. She passed away in Rancho Mirage, California on December 11, 2021.
