Jean-Robert Duré Placide

Jean-Robert DurĂ© Placide, a Jacmel native, is a linguist, educator, and lecturer. He started his schooling at RĂ©publique du LibĂ©ria, a school administered by Canadian monks located on 1ère Rue Lavaud, Bois-Verna. He completed his studies at UniversitĂ© du QuĂ©bec Ă  MontrĂ©al (UQAM). He is currently a faculty member at the Commission Scolaire de MontrĂ©al (CSDM). He teaches French, his secondary language, and Creole, his mother tongue. He is a Language Science technician, with special interest in language research in the area of Creole Lexicology which is intertwined with the etymology of African languages. He is an important member of the Canadian section of Sosyete Koukouy, the first literary movement for the Creole language. He has published several academic articles on Creole grammar and vocabulary, on the Potomitan web site, in the Haiti en Marche newspaper and in PawĂ²l KreyĂ²l, Sosyete Koukouy’s literary magazine. He has contributed to the writing of several books, such as Yon amenajman lengwistik pou devlopman pèp ayisyen an (2012), which is about language planning for the development of Haitian people.
